ex-military lightweight Land Rover

Just out of interest, if an ex-military LR was (apparently) originally yellow what kind of work would it have been used for?

Probably airfield/atc I would imagine.

Yep, ex-RAF.

I believe they were used by RAF for glider recovery, painted yellow so they could be seen from the air by the student glider pilots more easily against the grass.

Not just gliders - most Air Traffic runabout wagons are yellow Land Rovers that I’ve seen.

They used to have a few at West Malling aerodrome in Kent. I think they they still had a glider school there just before it was sold for housing. I was there as a kid and they used the yellow lightweights as a tow car for parascending. One of the instructors used to tear around the perimeter road like he was at Goodwood !

When I learned to fly glider at 622 GS at RAF Upavon , the Land Rovers we used to tow trailers to retrieve landed gliders were yellow lightweights.
