E61 force regenerate DPF
Discussion
Is this a thing? My orange light came on so I went to the garage and they plugged in the computer which said it was clogged. Guy said it was actually something I could do myself and to check the book, but I can't find the thing. It feels down on power and there's definitely something wrong but if it's something I could do myself that would be ace.
AFAIK, you have to have the diagnostics plugged in for a forced regen.
However, I'd take it out for a serious blat. Get the car warm, then keep over 55mph for a good few miles, in the lower gears if possible. Get some good heat in the dpf.
This "Italian tune up" is often all that's needed.

BMW diagnostic software will do a forced regen. However it will not if a fault is stored. Just driving will not do a regen if a fault is stored. I think Carly for BMW will do a forced regen too though I’ve only done them with BMW software.
Once the regen is done you need to diagnose and fix why the Dpf was blocked or it’ll do it again.
Common causes include faulty glow plugs and thermostats.
