Any simple guides? I have somehow stuffed my knee last year doing 150km on a loose cleat (i am confident that ride did the damage) and now can't get comfortable on the bike for even short rides (50-60k) without being in a lot of pain.

Obviously i will see a physio (and should have already) but in the meantime i want to be sure my cleats/post/reach is all as it should be - and i thoroughly resent paying my local shop £200 for the priviledge.

Cheers,
Ash

This isn't too pricey https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bike-Fit-Optimise-perform...
I've borrowed a copy from a friend and found it covers most basics. Obviously there's tons of Bike fitting videos on youtube but it's hard to tell what's sound advice and what's not.

Another thought: there are very cheap phone apps like huldtechnique that allow you to take a short slow motion video of your pedalling action and bike position on an indoor trainer (even a gym bike if you don't have your own). Then with a cheap protractor or goniometer you can broadly estimate your knee angles at top and bottom of the pedal stroke etc.

Hope you're on the mend from the knee injury!

I'd start with curing the injury, sounds like it will be a process as you've left it this long.

As for self fit, have a look here: https://www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/faq/

I understand the reluctance - I used to suffer knee pain, although depends on the quality of the fitter. I had one last year, nothing was radical although there were a series of adjustments to the main things, plus different shaped saddles (I tested a lot over 6 months!) pedal axle spacers, shoe insoles. I have no pain whatsoever now.

Bike fit is a journey, for want of a wky expression, mine has adjusted in the past 12 months as I've become more accustomed to the new riding position.
