In contrast to the other thread we are looking at the other end of the market to replace our ageing S Max and noticed that "nearly new" prices for Renault Grand Scenics and Citroen Grand Picassos with less than 10k miles on the clock are pretty attractive.

66/67 plate GS's for c£18-20k with 2-3 years warranty left etc. e.g.

Good idea if it's with a view to keeping long-term? (Depreciation being the biggest concern in the short-term I guess)

Not going to comment either way on the French cars, but for that budget with that criteria:

Kia Carens (6 year warranty remaining)

Or you could even go for a 2 Series?

Carens is just sooo dull hehe and the 2 Series is a no-go as we need 3 full size seats in the rear as the sprogs are all still in high-backed boosters...

I was tempted by a Picasso

The sheer amount of tech to go wrong scared me so I didnt go any further, as I wanted to keep the car a long time

Im happy to be proved wrong though

I'll just let you know that the Xsara Picasso we had was the most reliable car we've ever had.

In 8 years, the only thing that went wrong apart from consumables (tyres, brakes, etc) was the remote central locking failed so we had to revert to using the key in the lock. we took it from 12k to 112k with no other issues.

Make of that what you will, the myth of French cars falling apart, is that a myth. I've had more issues with VW's and Ford's than with our Citroen.

No. They are fine in the basic (expensive) mechanical areas. However although the myth of their being inferior to German makes is overly hyped, they do have bits of plastic which can be fragile and sometimes bits of trim drop off - with no discernable effect. Go ahead if you like the saving over “me too” choices.
