Hi,

I took my car into BMW dealership today as there's a lot of what looks like corrosion on the alloys. Almost like mould or something.

The car is leased and under warranty. After BMW taking a look they said one of the wheels would be covered under warranty and video/images sent to BMW to get authorisation to get it sorted.

However, the guy said two of the wheels have been refurbished at some point so BMW will likely ask for contribution. The problem is I've never had the wheels refurbished. I got the car on lease about 5 months old - what do I do in this situation as I'm loathed to pay a contribution for wheels I've never refurbished!

I guess I contact the lease company right? Would they pay the contribution to BMW?

BMW dealership is probably lying and trying to fob you off. They are incentivised liars in my experience. Best bet is stand your ground. Who did you buy the car off, perhaps they refurbed them under some sort of approved used scheme?

Motorpoint - who I have just phoned and they said because I'd had the car for 2 years they wouldnt cover any contribution.

Motorpoint also said they dont have any record of the car's wheel being refurbished.

Not sure what do to now...

I think you will struggle if the car has been sold outside of the BMW dealer network. I think with Motorpoint (from previous experience) the fact they have no record of a refurb doesn't mean they or the previous owner didn't do one....

Hmmm......Looking at some of these reviews: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/motorpoint.co.uk?...

I would take what Motorpoint say with a big pinch of salt!

Motorpoints record keeping of anything other than sales isn’t exactly great ( the only record of them servicing my car is the piece of paper that comes with it)

But, that’s why they are cheap. A car with an identical spec/mileage to mine 6 months after I bought it was still nearly 2 grand more than I paid for mine from motorpoint.

Personally I’d just pay 350 quid and get all 3 wheels refurbed in something like wheel specialists “shadow chrome” I did this with a golf with diamond cut wheels. It was more durable than the original finish but still had a shine to it.

Will be cheaper than a new bmw wheel I can assure you.

If you’ve had it on lease for 2 years when is it going back?

I suspected that. It annoys me when people say lease and they've got a PCP.

I wonder, though, if the OPs mindset is that he's leased, he's thinking of handing the car back? If it's a 3yr deal then I'd be minded to live with the wheels. If it's 4yrs then maybe something needs to be done.

Anyway, he's just going to have to live with it or suck up the cost. Newsflash: Used cars are cheaper than new because they're not new.

First user has clearly had some smart repairs done that weren't picked up when it came back, let me guess......diamond cut?

I'd just suck it up I think.

+1 yes

Can't really understand why bmwmike is accusing BMW of lying about what they've found, just because he has apparently had bad experiences with BMW, and is completely ruling out the possibility that BMW could actually be correct, and that the previous user of the car (or Motorpoint) have had the wheels refurbished and kept it quiet.

My Mrs has a Mini Cooper JCW (12 months old) with diamond cut wheels and only after having it a few weeks we noticed the silver bits on a couple of the wheels had been repaired and painted. It's cheaper than recutting them so I reckon that's what's happened to the OP.

If it was brand new I'd be upset however it wasn't so we just got on with our lives. It's only noticeable really close up and she'll only mash them up again anyway hehe
