£3k on something small, or £10k on something big?

Car has just been declared a total loss (VW CC) and have agreed payment with insurance company.

I'm now in a quandary as to whether to just spend £3k on something like a Mini or Swift Sport, or something big.

Into the equation, £5k outstanding on a loan, another 2 years but not breaking the bank and have some cash laying about too.

Thoughts - small and fun, big and fast? I only do around 5k miles PA, also have a couple of kids that need ferrying about occasionally (8 & 11).
