Hi
I have a 66 reg VW Polo that has just been dented on the drives door and to the door sill. The damage looks quite bad and therefore expensive to me. I intend to part exchange it next year when it will be 3 years old . Should I put in an insurance claim and get it repaired now or accept the hit on price when I part ex at a vw dealership.

I'd be grateful for any advice

thank you

Post a picture up, it could be that a decent PDR man could get it out.

Go to a couple of body shops & get some quotes to see if it is really expensive because if you part exchange it damaged it will cost you more than the repair cost.

thank you for the replies.

I popped into my local dealership to get some idea of the potential cost. It came back very very expensive. Factoring in that brand dealerships are
likely to be very dear anyway. I've decided to claim on my insurance. It will work out the cheapest for me in the long run

Why would you take the car to a dealership to enquire about the cost of a bodywork repair? You even acknowledge yourself that would be an expensive way of doing it. Why haven't you tried local bodyshops?

Posts asking for advice at 17:51 then instead of reading and maybe acting on advice goes to a dealer for a quote (at least 2 or 3 times what a decent independent bodyshop will charge).

Dealer very very expensive (no st Sherlock) but then decides even none dealer will be too expensive and notifies IC by 12:07 the next day!

OP, why ask for advice if you're going to ignore it?
