Hello, I'm currently 18 with 1 years ncb and currently drive a mk2 1.2 clio which was more than fine for my first car but I would like to move on to something with a bit more power as I'm sure you know the 1.2's have a huge struggle getting up to speed but it can be extremely difficult to jump to a car with a bit more power at a young age, I'm not looking for a golf R or a s3 or anything just something cheap to buy and not an extortionate amount on insurance anyone's help would be massively appreciated. Apologies if this has already been asked brand new to the page as of today.

What would you Class as “affordable”??

There are lots of good oldies which you can pick up that have power in spades, but with 1 year NCD and at only 18 your insurance will be more than the value of the car.

Also (and nothing against your driving ability) but at 18 with only 1 years driving experience under your belt do you think something more powerful is the best idea?

Do you mean cheap to buy, cheap to insure or both?

hiya mate by affordable I'm still on apprentice wage so the car would preferably be no more than around £3500 and I totally understand where you're coming from mate with only a years driving experience behind me but I'm not looking for anything extreme just something with a slight bit more power that won't destroy me on insurance of that helps and yeah I know how odd the insurance firms are so it can be a very difficult subject I understand

ideally car price around £3500 and insurance in the region of around £1500 obviously less if possible

There are loads of good cars within that price range;.

Cooper
Civic
Megane
Focus/Fiesta
Golf/Polo
MX5

It all depends how old you want to go tbh, also keep an eye out for “special” editions as they tend to come with a higher spec for the money. Good luck with the car search and let us know how you get on smile

Don't rule out bigger cars that fewer teenagers are driving and crashing - that will help the insurance side of things (and potentially the purchase price too). Smaller is not always cheaper.
