Hello all, while driving home today my car developed a clunking noise, very much speed related and I would say one clunk per revolution of the wheels. The noise got progressively louder over the course of 100 miles. The sound alters a little when cornering and stops completely when braking, even gently. First thought is front wheel bearings are knackered but I’m not sure as I always thought it was CV joints that clunked. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Ta, Ian

Nothing as simple as that unfortunately, all torqued up. I’ve jacked up and checked each corner and there is no discernible noise / movement in the wheels when I spin them.

A month or two ago I did have a sticking Caliper on the rear offside. I’m wondering whether the heat build up has affected the grease in the bearing and that’s brought about it failing. With the amount of noise when driving though I’d be expecting the wheel to be half hanging off 😀

Damaged tyre that is changing shape under braking hiding the noise? I had a tyre with a broken band in it, that made an odd noise that changed when braking.
