Before I part with approx £15k savings, are there any former owners of this car who can help / advise as to what extras I should get or
not bother getting?

Thank you.

Surely at £15k you need to be looking at a newer model?

No way I would spend £15k on a gen 1 now, it is a 15 year old design.

the newer gen are too expensive given my budget and those which are close to £15k have very high mileage.

What do you class as too high a mileage? 80k?

for that mileage too expensive. i might as well buyer an older car 20,000 miles less which is under £15,000.

Buy one for £10k maybe, but to sink £15k into a car that came out 15 years ago now I think is a bit silly.

The car reg will be around 2008-09 so where does this fifteen years come from?

Presumably a diesel? I'd be more worried about a 10 y/old car which has only averaged 6k miles a year, potential DPF issues?

Each to their own, but I'd rather have a 2nd generation with 80k than 1st generation with 60k on the clock. Neither will have any warranty and could both go wrong. At least buy based on condition rather than mileage.

Correct. Low mileage is key for me rather than a ‘newer’ car with a higher mileage. Full service history is equally important. Any big 4x4 I’m looking at is diesel.

What I mean is, the Toureg gen 1 is a model that came out in 2002, so late 90s development tech.
They ran it until 2010 so 8 years, then we got the gen 2 in 2010 until now, and now the gen 3.

All I am saying is, I really wouldn't be putting £15k into a gen 1 now, no matter how low the miles are.

They are big heavy cars and as they get older they will age, bushes will go etc.

At least get into a Gen 2, here is a 12 plate with 39k miles for pretty much budget.

The old Toureg feels old now.

Original Touareg design came out in '03, that's where the 15 comes from, and a low mileage diesel is also another can of worms.

Not saying that there's anything wrong with a Touareg, but if I had £15k it wouldn't be my first option, and a first generation one definitely wouldn't even cross my mind.

I hear what you are saying. Well the other car I am strongly considering is a 2nd gen BMW X5. A similar age (2008-09). The 1st gen X5 basically started the trend for 4 x 4 I think!

My end of lease 15 plate facelift R-Line with 24,000 miles was offered back to me for £23k, a 1st gen for £15k sounds a bit excessive to me?

Is it really on 60,000?

I wouldn't pay 15k for a 10+yr old Touareg

Crack on though. Your posts read as though your mind is decided.

What Merc have you got?

I have done 250000 miles in Mercs over the last 10 years and not had a single issue, other than replacing thermostats.
