With my current car nearing the end of it's life after being the 8th owner it's finally come time to start looking out for a replacement. I don't have much criteria as pretty much most cars are an upgrade over my 03 Hyundai Getz which has no suspension and 60hp. So far I've been looking at a Mazda 3 1.6 or a Honda civic 8th 1.8 with a budget of around £1500. Ideally I'd like to keep it small as I enjoy the lightness of my getz and have at least 4 seats ruling out the mx5
. Insurance is still an issue being only 20 but I've been driving for 2 years so I've found insurance to be decent from Aviva even with bigger engined cars. I'd also like it to be able to survive my occasional road trips with one going around Europe.
I've also considered the Suzuki Swift and Mini Cooper but with the cooper being BMW owned I wasn't sure of it's running costs and maintenance.
Thanks

Avoid the Astra.
Copied and pasted from 2 years ago lol
"If I can put my tuppence in mate, don't get one
Worst car I've ever owned
Terrible economy for performance, low quality interior, lots of little niggles (and mine was only in the 30,000's!)
The focus of the same age is a much better buy IMHO"
I had the 1.6 Club and it was s
te.
Focus or maybe a volvo?

Never really been keen on the astra and it seems a bit bulky and hardly the funnest thing to drive.
As for the Swift my only concern is its rear space where something like the civic or mazda 3 do well but that's also the case cooper.
I've looked at volvos but the only ones I would be able to afford are one of the large saloons and I prefer light cars.
Would the swift be a better bet than the mazda3 or Civic 8th gen?
