Seems to be quite a rare car, which i believe shares a platform with Ford Maverick? Going to see one with a view to buying this afternoon.

It's got an MOT til January 2019, with no advisories, but previous MOT had advisories for corrosion for front and rear subframe and suspension mounts.

Is it strange that these advisories are not mentioned on the most recent MOT and how would i physically check to see if these have been repaired.

As per previous post, i'm looking for a cheap runabout, (4x4/estate preferred due to load carrying requirements) to save money for a couple of years. So want something reliable and dont want to be buying a money pit!

Any advice on this particular model? Anything i should look out for?

The problem with MOT's are that a lot of stuff is subjective. Previous tester may have thought it was an issue but next one might not.

Ideally you'd be able to get it up on a ramp to check out the subframe/suspension rust (potential) issue.

It might just be surface rust and a super-anal MOT centre.

Mazdas and rust, run run run

I had a Mazda6 and Mx5, both rusted badly, I often wondered how on earth they made pickups and offroaders as even their looked after cars rusted to buggery

Maybe have a look to see how bad it is, but bear in mind lots rust inside out, so one visable bit of rust is the tip of the iceberg

I had a ford maverick 3.0v6. Drove very well, like a car, engine was a peach. Rusty around rear doors.

Bought the mazda tribute! Got the seller down from 995 to £800.
Clean Mot with no advisories... Previous mot had subframe corrosion advisory, had a look and does look like surface rust, seems solid enough (fingers crossed)!
Drives, changes gear and stops fine....drive it home after buying and theres a whine for about 30 secs after i stopped the engine... Seems to be there on start up too? Any ideas?

No service history unfortunately, so going to put it in for a service too and probably get timing belt done too. What can I expect to pay for this?

Think I've identified the whine as the motor for motorised aerial... Its stuck in the up position, but the motor seems to be trying to put it up and down when I start and stop the engine! Teeth have probably worn down...will have a look at DIY replacing.

Congrats on the new purchase!

You could consider giving the subframe a lick of something from Bilt Hamber if you want to stave off rust, but TBH, most cars have surface rust underneath on components.

Oh to live somewhere hot with no rain and no evil salt over winter!

Thanks Paul...

Car seems to be running great..slight whine from passenger side when driving, havent determined if its from the engine or wheel, could do with brake pads on the front as they're practically non-existant, so might just be that rubbing.

Got a quote for timing belt/water pump replacement today of £360 inc VAT...almost half the cost of the car. No service history, so no idea if its been done recently, or at all in it's 114000 miles, so dont really want to chance it. Does that seem a fair price? (£125+VAT for parts, £175.00+VAT for labour).

The same garage quoted me £35 per hour labour for brake pads, as i have a set of Mintex pads for the car...does it really take 5 hrs to change a timing belt + water pump?
