Hi all

We moved my DB9 onto the road to rearrange cars and now it won't start. The start button just makes a click noise. Battery was replace 8 weeks ago during its service and it has been on trickle charge ever since.

So it is stuck in park and we can't move it. Obviously the started motor could have just packed in, but any other ideas on the cause and any advice on how to get it in neutral so we can move it?

Thanks in advance!

hi
Had this happen on my 2009 DB9 last year -everything dead - no lights on the dash at all -power steering not operable
Turned out to be a failed ignition docking station( which the main dealer said they d never seen before!) - as it was stuck in park it was a helluva job for the AA to get it on the transporter to the dealer !

Hope your problem is a lot simpler ( and cheaper!!)

Check your manual on page 5.6 you can release the parking brake on the auto transmission so you can push the car.

Thanks! The car is back on the drive behind the gates - so not going to be keyed overnight!

AM Nottingham coming out in the morning. They think it migh be a slight connection issue with the new battery that is not throwing in enough power to turn it over. Starter motor would, they say, be a very rare issue.

Cheers!

Edited to say 'Starter motor" not "Started motor". If I could have started it there wouldn't be a problem!

I was going to suggest a loose battery terminal, give them a wiggle and see.

Could you have flooded the engine by starting, not running for long and then starting again?

That wouldn’t explain it not even turning over. It say battery or starter motor.

AM Nottingham couldn't come out today (they did call yesterday evening, in all fairness) so I now have an expensive sculpture on my drive, which I realise is a proper first world problem!

I am very tempted to tinker!

Thanks for the help everyone.

Have you tested the battery voltage? Sounds obvious I know.....

If it's dead by now then it's not a new battery anyway.
12.7 volts does not mean it has enough power to turn the engine. Try some jump leads on it and that should confirm or eliminate the battery.

^the man above is spot on, you need to see that voltage as you're trying to crank the engine.

Does it give a 'low battery warning' in the console when the ignition is on, (but before pressing the start button?)

Has it worked since the new battery was fitted, or is this first attempt?-battery connections, anything else disturbed whilst changing? It would have to be quite a coincidence for something else to fail just as the battery is changed (unless connected the wrong way).

Hi there,
Fitted new battery as okd was was knackered but still started when jumped,

New battery was fine for 2 weeks
Then went to Bodyshop
To have mirrors done.
They said as last minute before bringing back you going to need a new battery we had to put a jump pack on to move it, (it was at Bodyshop 5 weeks)
So they brought it back running, I went straight away to fuel it up and thank goodness I didn’t switch off.

Parked back at work and left running for 2 hours.
I honestly thought it would be fine.
I switched off after 2 hours and tried it straightaway, it just single clicked and wouldn’t start.
I checked everything all fuses, I found 1 fuse gone which was top row far left and replaced.
Still nothing

I booght another battery today incase other was faulty
And nothing and wouldn’t jump
Just does the single click

Stuck in park and had to leave at work
It’s a total disaster.

I then read somewhere today, disconnect battery for at least 20 minutes, and then put cables together and then reconnect leads, and still
Nothing.

So don’t know what to do and must get the car moved by Tuesday and got operation Monday so really had enough with it all.

Anyone got any ideas
It was fine before being jumped with a jump started at a Bodyshop
A few times
They jumped from from bonnet rather than the battery
I took the battery cover off today

Is there anything simple I might have missed please
