Hi guys,

Looking to get a second hand reasonably new, low mileage (under 30k miles) mk6 Fiesta ST. YES IT WAS AN MK7 sorry

Are they good cars and subjectively speaking do they feel quick?. Its just I read somewhere else about someone who tested one and honestly couldn't tell the difference between that a regular Fiesta.

Secondly what alternatives could there be. Obviously as I've read just about everywhere its the class leader and extremely good value at that. But just to make sure: what possible alternatives might be worth considering.

Lastly, if I wanted something bigger, would the mk3 Focus ST be a good bet? Carbuyer seemed to think it wasn't particularly noteworthy.

Do you mean a Mk7 Fiesta ST (with the 1.6 turbo engine)? ie. one of these. Obviously it depends on what you're used to driving, but for most people it should feel pretty quick.

The Mk6 had a 2 litre NA engine, and by todays standards is pretty tame.

If it comes down to a MK6 Fiesta ST or a 2.5T Focus ST it would be the Focus every time the 5 Cylinder lump is a peach & the handling while not as good as the Megane RS it's not far off.

It's the hot hatch I bought when given the choice.

I’ve never driven a regular mk7 Fiesta but it’s almost guaranteed that they’ll be a lot different to the ST. The chassis is fantastic, handles superbly and is “proper” fun. The downside is a very firm and jumpy ride. Ford supposedly improved this on the mk7.5 (rear LED lights, ‘16 onwards I think) but I never had the chance to compare. There a few vids on YouTube comparing the 1.6 ST engine to the 1.0 ecoboost 140 - that should give a good indication on the speed difference.

The mk7 was highly rated as it was the best value-fun new car you could buy. The interior is pretty meh and can be a bit boomy inside with the sound symposer but for pure driving it’s great. You should be able to pick up a good deal on a newish example given the Mk8 has now been released.

To be rather blunt. I think whoever said the MK7 ST doesn't feel different to a normal Fiesta is an idiot, or has never driven one.

I shipped in my Audi S6 Avant when we moved house to free up some money to help cover the stamp duty. I got a cheap lease on a MK7 ST to use as my station hack. Obviously the difference between the two is stark, but the ST is a lovely little car - great fun. It sticks like the proverbial to a blanket, goes well enough and handles like a go-kart. It's not perfect, but it's pretty close.

I'd recommend it, in fact I'd happily look at the new version once the lease on this one is up!
