The price includes all testing that is part of the 24 hr race format, additional testing may be available if all drivers are up for it but that would be an extra cost

Is the 24h confirmed now. I understood there was still some discussion over a long term deal with silverstone and it was to be resolved one way or another this week ?

EERC. BRITCAR

Press Release 3rd June 2005

Hawthorns Motorsport have decided to withdraw from the British GT series and enter their BMW Z3M Coupe GT3 race car in the EERC Britcar Series, where it will be classified as a group 2 car and therefore be more fairly matched against fellow competitors. “We have loved the experience of British GT and although we felt that we were slightly frowned upon for not having the proper support equipment such as expensive trucks and awnings, they treated us well and welcomed our efforts”. “The fact is that unless you have the right sort of car with about 400bhp+ to start with, you have little chance of being competitive against the Porsches and Ferrari’s and that seems to be the sort of cars people prefer to run”.

“If you can’t beat them, join them, or withdraw and come back when you have a car capable of being competitive, our BMW Only develops 325/340 bhp, and when all said and done, it’s a converted road car whilst 95% of the cars in the GT Series are purpose made race cars. We could buy a 996 Porsche GT3 for the money we would have to spend to make the BMW competitive in existing company, so we’ve decided to call a halt for to continue with the further development of the car would not be a viable or sensible proposition.” The recent issue over the Main Tyre supplier to the GT series has little or nothing to do with our decision, mind you if we had been asked we would have had an opinion, as would all the GT teams. Some of the teams are not that happy about the way things happened, we on the other hand spent 7 years in the TVR Tuscan Challenge and were well used to being told what was going or not going to happen, there you were lucky if they allocated you a race number unless you pre agreed to tow the line, a sort of benign dictatorship, great days really.

We are looking forward to joining the Britcar series for the Brands Hatch round and hopefully for the rest of the season, for we are having detailed discussions with one or two of the existing successful preparation teams in the series that currently run BMW’s, we are sure that we will find a home fairly soon. Unfortunately, Colin Blower Motorsport are unable to run us in the Britcar series as they have pre commitments throughout the rest of the 2005 season, but we will part on the best of terms which is hardly surprising after such a long and successful association. We prefer not to run our own team as we used to do a few years back, it was hard work and took a lot away from the enjoyment that at our age we feel we should not be missing out on, life’s too short, let others do the hard work, we’ll do the racing!!

As to 2006, who knows, maybe we will re-join the British GT series if we buy a 996 GT CUP Car, there again we might love Britcar and become very attached to our ultra reliable Z3M coupe GT car and decide to live out our remaining race years in glorious Britcar style.

Hawthorns Motorsport
Silverstone Britcar 24hr Willhire Race
September 8th/11th 2005

Hawthorns Motorsport used to run a Z3M Coupe GT3 car in the British GT series and from June 2005 will run in the EERC. Britcar series, for as the cars origins are in 24hr endurance racing it seems quite natural to consider entering the car in the Britcar 24hr Willhire Race. Having successfully entered and completed the 2002 Nurburg, the 2002 Bathhust and the 2003 Bathurst, the car is well suited to the task in hand as well as it’s continuing campaign in other Britcar events

The team is fully supported by it’s preparation team partners, and with their help and advice the car will be fully prepared for the event and as the preparation team have years of expertise behind them of endurance racing, we are expecting a high level of reliability and therefore a fantastic value for money racing experience for the drivers involved.

In principal there are two seats available in addition to the cars regular drivers, and these seats will be offered subject to status, to those who are interested in buying the drive, have the necessary skill levels and the budget together with physical fitness to support 6 hours of racing each plus testing and qualifying.

The budget required has been set at a competitive level and is an all inclusive figure but is subject to VAT at the standard rate. The seat price will include all race fees, shared motorhome accommodation, meals, and refreshments, the last two items being available for the drivers and up to 3 guests each. It also includes tyres, fuel and parts etc together with insurance, bar an excess payment of £2500.00 which is payable in advance and will be held against any damaged caused by the individual driver. The excess payment is fully re-fundable in the event that the driver has no accident damage claims.

The budget price is £8995.00 plus VAT per seat.

Hawthorns Motorsport can not be held responsible for any failures effecting the cars ability to compete, everything possible will be done to ensure that the car is fully operational but terminal failure of major conponants or accident damage inflicted that is beyond repair will not be accepted in any way as a reason to return part or the whole of a drivers race fee.

Silverstone Britcar 24hr Willhire Race
September 8th/11th 2005
Hawthorns Motorsport and their Preparation team Moore Racing Announce important news !!!!!!

Part subsidized drives available, 30% of all costs now being paid by Hawthorns Motorsport’s main sponsors Seat costs now reduced from £8995 to £6295.

Hawthorns Motorsport ran a Z3M Coupe GT3 car in the 2005 British GT series from the beginning of the race season until June 2005 when due to the prospect of having to spend many thousands of pounds to make the car a GT3 contender, we chose the alternative, and we think more sensible option of transferring the team to the less financially demanding EERC. Britcar series where they operate a much fairer race car classification system.

The cars origins are in 6/12/24hr endurance racing, and it seems quite natural to be moving to Britcar as the racing class classifications are far fairer to competitors that have sensible or limited budgets. The team is also entering the car in the Britcar 24hr Willhire Race, for having successfully entered and completed the 2002 Nurburg 24hrs, the 2002 Bathhust and the 2003 Bathurst 24hrs, the car is well suited to the task in hand.

The team is fully supported by it’s new preparation team partners, Moore Racing and with their help and advice the car will be fully prepared for the event and as the preparation team have years of expertise in endurance racing, we are expecting a high level of reliability and therefore a fantastic value for money racing experience for the drivers involved.

There are two seats available in addition to the cars two regular drivers, making four in all and these seats will be offered subject to status, to those who are interested in buying the drive, have the necessary skill levels and the budget together with physical fitness to support 6 hours of racing each plus testing and qualifying.

The budget required is an all inclusive figure bar insurance, but is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

An accident damage Deposit payment of £2500.00 is payable in advance and will be held against any damaged caused by the individual driver, these payments are fully re-fundable in the event that the driver has no accident damage claims. We will require all drivers to sign a full indemnity document with personal guarantees or in combination/instead of, supply an insurance cover policy/letter to cover up to the full cost of totally re-building the car estimated at £35,000-00 sterling. As mentioned above the insurance can have an excess of £2500-00. A Group policy can also be arranged if all drivers agree, this could also be a cheaper option.

Neither Hawthorns Motorsport or Moore Racing can be held responsible for any failures effecting the cars ability to compete, everything possible will be done to ensure that the car is fully operational but terminal failure of major components or accident damage inflicted that is beyond repair will not be accepted in any way as a reason to return part or the whole of a drivers race fee. Race fees are therefore non-refundable.

Sounds like a Dutch Auction to me. Are the enough drivers with the budget to fill all the seats going for this race 24 hrs with a grid of 15 cars does not sound like much of a race.

Also has the marshalling issue been resolved I was talking with a group of Marshalls at Le Mans from Germany and they said they might be up for coming across and helping out.
