Apparently in Sharia Law, 'interest/debt) is the equivalent to committing adultery. When I heard that, I thoughts, "that's a little 'extreme', even by their standards!".
But I reflected on life, how I (an 'average' person) live life, its advantages/disadvantages.
My theory is quite simple, we may think we live in a free, democratic society, but in reality, we're chained up and slaves to the system for all our lives, merely to get out of DEBT, to have a roof over our heads (ridiculous cost of paying our mortgage)....
It's Shocking to think of it like that.
We're MADE to live in small pockets like the majority do in cities, it's far easier to control us... if we became self-reliant by living away from it all, it would be far harder to keep people in check. (Greenbelt land MY ASS)
Same applies if you're renting, the extortionate cost of renting).
To sum things up, we're slaves to the system, the powers that be control us, and how we live our lives.

Debt is indeed indentured servitude by another name but a decent amount of the time it's also a choice you can opt out of.
Most debts are self inflicted. No one needs that leased Audi when a grand's worth of honda will do you fine.
In this day and age you'd be better off forgetting university with all that debt and learning a real trade.
I myself owe nothing and own not too far off nothing too.

100% agree. Most debts are self inflicted. No one needs that leased Audi when a grand's worth of honda will do you fine.

I grew up in west wales. Let me tell you, there’s plenty of people out there living with no debt, no real money, no ties, nothing op has suggested.
I do to an extent agree with the op. Life can feel this way. Credit scores are held against us throughout our lives from our teenage years. It’s a threat.
But I know it’s a choice.
What I dislike is the whining about debt, whilst taking on debt. Fine if you push the system away, interesting even. But don’t then complain you can’t buy a house. Nice things are high value because they’re nice. And people like nice things.
Name a society in the world, from the smallest tribe to massive communist/capitalist states, where people aren't coerced into living a particular way in order to remain a part of that society.
Go and live in the forest and live off tree bark, just remember not to rock up at your local A&E when you've got something life threatening wrong with you.

The area of the U.K. is around 60 million acres and there are 65 million of us. We could all have less than an acre each - in practice some of that is mountainous and useless for farming.
Ergo it’s not possible for all of us to live self contained and self subsistent lives, we need to live in cities in higher densities by sheer dint of how many of us there are on a fairly small set of islands.

This, as far as free and fair societies go, the UK is pretty damn good. Perfect, no, but few other places on earth have as many opportunities and as few barriers or restrictions. But now I have R.E.M in my head...

It's a little early to be on the pop and so philosophical. But I reflected on life, how I (an 'average' person) live life, its advantages/disadvantages.

But you don't have to do all that stuff, it's just easier to opt in and enjoy healthcare, rules, police and structure. Are you hankering after the old pioneer spirit of the wild west, building your own cabin and sleeping with a shotgun, a traveling life with a house on wheels, tribal life in an Amazonian rain forest, or just living up a mountain as a hermit?
