Odd experience with a ticket
Discussion
Last week I returned to a car i'd left on some double yellows to find a completely expected ticket on the window.
So far so easy.
Except this ticket had been filled out with seemingly no effort at all and was virtually ineligable, except for the code at the top, an offense code and £100 in the box.
£100 seems a bit steep for a double yellow FPN, given the rest of the ticket was unreadable I took it down to the local station, an officor had a good look at it, found the word 'number plate' in one of the boxes and said it was that. Fair enough. I Couldnt pay it there and then but the officor advised I can pay online.
So I go online, enter in the codes, and it returns as the top code and offense code dont match. The offense code is clear enough, two letters and 5 numbers, with one of the digits outside of the box, however it is clearly a 4. So I tired it with every other number in place of the 4 and it comes back as not matching.
So I phone the 0300 number instead, the automated service asks me for the long number, it confirms the number back to me, and requests I pay £30, takes my card details and gives me a reference number.
This doesnt feel right at all to me. If the offense code doesnt match the ticket I've got a horrible feeling i'll get a letter inviting me to talk to somebody in a wig.
Am i about to enter a world of hurt?
So far so easy.

I'm going to assume you mean "illegible". Was your plate So far so easy.

If not, screw it into a ball and bin it.
If it is, post a pic, with the plate obscured, and let's see what we can make of it.
I've had a badly written out ticket with mistakes in "ripped up"
£30 for incorrect sized number plate, it was on a bike, legal font just a little bit smaller than normal, wasn't a piss take plate.
I got summons 4 months later, underpaid the fine, rang them explained I'd paid on the phone, told them the date and time I paid it, they looked into it and as the ticket was illegobubble they just cancelled it and refunded me.
You'll have a call log, and paying on the phone is is automated, you can only pay what they ask and will only take what is written down, irregardless if they have got it wrong.

PS: When I am King, anyone who begins a sentence with the word "so" will be killed, roasted, and eaten, but not necessarily in that order.
It's hard to roast somebody after you've eaten them, and the killing is likely to not be too far from the front of the sequence.TooMany2cvs said:

I’m just disappointed that you could sprinkle a few ‘to be fair’s into the post.So far so easy.
