Hi,

I've taken the plunge and gone for a 4K OLED TV. It supports Dolby Vision but I'm having a job finding a UHD Blu Ray player that currently supports Dolby Vision.

Any other units apart from the LG UHD Blu ray unit support Dolby Vision?

Cheers for any info

The Sony UBP-X700 apparently will be updated (if it hasn't already) to allow for Dolby Vision. Sony are actively marketing it as a dolby vision player.

Annoyingly my higher model UBP-X800 doesn't use dolby vision but there is a chance it might be updated too.

Don't trust Sony when they talk about DV support. Yes, they'll add it - but it'll be a rare day when DV support arrives as soon as they'll insinuate.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the LG as it has DV out the box.

Bearing in mind Oppo are pulling out the market. I think they are still providing equipment and software support though?

I (briefly) tried both the LG and Sony - in both cases I had snags with the LG TV reliably showing a picture, but I think that may have been due to the Yamaha AV amp between them. Of the two the Sony was by far the nicer, the LG would have had to go back anyway as it made a terrible racket. I ended up with the Oppo which is a lovely bit of kit - Oppo have undertaken to support it for the duration of the warranty so I'm not too concerned about them leaving the market. I would get one whilst you can....

Yes they are. Lovely well built proper piece of AV kit too.

Strong residuals offset the initial purchase price somewhat.

Panasonic have the UB820 that supports DV, and for the high end enthusiast the UB9000 later in the year, with OPPO pulling
out of the market, it looks like the defacto high end choice....

Yup, I think I'm going to go for the Panasonic UP820. A bit over budget but it seems like the better option.

Hopefully there will be some decent reviews soon

Hi T1B,

One thing to watch for is your HDMI link to the TV.

We did Spikety's install earlier in the year and his LG 4K HDR Screen / Yamaha Processor had a real issue handling the resolution changes between the Menu screens and 4K HDR content. He tried several different brands and models of UHD Player and the only one that helped the LG cope was the Oppo because it has a 'resolution' button on the remote that helps force it to the a resolution the screen could cope with.

This only happens on the menu screens, once you can see what you are doing and are ready to play, 4K and Atmos works perfecly.

Hey Vex,

Cheers for that, It's been fitted now so I'm kind of waiting till the UHD player arrives. I did push my HTPC to 4K and it didn't have any problems with that so I'm hoping it will be OK.

Properly pleased with it so far.

Fingers crossed the issue you mentioned won't affect me (Unit updated pretty much the second it saw the internet).

Cheers

Phew!

Finally got UHD Player, Panasonic UB820 no Dolby Vision Support yet but I believe a firmware update is coming "Summer 2018", anyway, through blind luck and basically getting the best cable I could get at time of install 6 years ago (Install thread if you're interested link) I had no issues!

I will admit to sweating an awful lot as SWMBO would have gone mental if I had to open up the wall again to install new cable.

Watched the Matrix and was blown away by the picture quality.

Cheers
