Vauxhall meriva 1.4 2005 engine

Hi guys is the engine in the vauxhall meriva 1.4 petrol a reliable engine? And also i heard it has timing chain which apparently lasts for a very long time?

I don’t think any engine that Vauxhall is reliable, they all piss oil out and eat timing chains for fun.

Wife had one of those, was reliable to be fair, biggest problem though it was a gutless power unit, especially when pulling away from a standstill, quite dangerous at times, entering a traffic island for instance, spot a suitable gap, attempt to enter traffic, and the damn thing would not have the guts to get there, all of a sudden the gaps gone and your in trouble, spoke to guys at dealer's who reported that's how they were. Following version with the Turbo 1.4 was night and day different, much much better.

Although, on saying that, you do realise that if he does buy something PH's going to get flooded with daily threads (obviously in the wrong subforum that require moving by the mods ) about "xyz is wrong with my car. What's the problem?" or "xyz failed 1 month after buying the car. How can i go about fking over the trader that sold me a sub £1k lemon?", etc, etc

Meriva is a rarer and more interesting example of getting about. Much better suited to almost anything.
