After a stopgap car till next spring and was wondering what these are like in terms of reliability and is there anything to look out for,

Mainly want a comfy auto with enough power to not get bored.

Thanks guys

I would imagine reliability is as good as any other car, but having a turbo means there's more to go wrong from a maintenance perspective, and it probably uses a dual mass flywheel.

No doubt it feels a very heavy car so won't set your world on fire performance wise.

My father had a 57-reg one, 2.5 petrol auto. Bought new, had it for 10 years and did 130k miles. Other than the VED going up to £500 a year, nothing went wrong. It ate dipped headlight bulbs but in fairness they're running all the time and they're easy to replace - the whole headlight comes out by removing two prongs from the top.

Comfy and absolutely rock solid, he crashed his through all sorts of hedgerows and wildlife over those ten years and never needed any repairs other than one foglight. He even had his own trailer crash into the back of the car after he forgot to hook on properly, again virtually not a scratch on the car.

Refined on the motorway, 75mph was about 1800 rpm and on a long run could just about squeeze an average 30mpg from the trip computer. Eventually the VED killed it off for him and he got rid.

Seems about right for a 57 plate Petrol engine.
Why do you think it isn’t?

The manual is in a cheaper tax band.
Autos are sadly not.
If £500 pa doesn't put you off, there is a V8... driving

Manuals must be quite rare? I fancied a T6 but they're burdened with an utter dogs dinner of an auto gear box. I think it only has 4 gears as well..

I was quite fond of my 2005 D5. Handled like a boat but it was comfy and fairly economical.

Yes it was most definitely £500 pa when he sold it about a year ago. Today it may be in the £540 bracket, it was a horrendous increase given that I recall it starting in 2007 around the £170ish mark. Automatics always seem to get stung worse then their manual counterparts, being a 2.5 petrol didn't help either.

Because my S80 02 plate auto is around £320 a year.

Anything pre 2006 stays in the lower bracket. The £500 bracket only applies to post 2006 vehicles.

I think the facelift in 2003 (ish) removed the headlamp wipers, when they moved from glass to plastic headlamp covers.. Same rule still applies for the headlamp washers though.

Ah, facelift was maybe a little later on the S80. I know the 53 reg onward S60 and V70 had the wipers removed. Presumed S80 was at the same time.
