Wow, that's pretty involved. Great if you have the cash to burn.

I wonder, when you crank it up, if everything on the floor glides around the room like an air hockey puck?

I want one... think it needs more power though...

I think that's something to add to my own personal grand designs project! don't think a wood house would do though!

Horns don't need lots of power. The Living Voice Horns which are about as big as a wardrobe only need 2 to 5 watts of amp to drive them.

Meet the Air Partner.

Its baby brother the Air Scout costs £24k

What a tt.

Also likely to sound total shite.

What is the obsession with extreme bass? I have a NAD system with a standard size sub-bass, and it sounds great. But I certainly don't need more low frequences.

You've got to laugh.....especially if after laying that 1 ton marble slab, you realise you've not plugged the cables in for the sub speakers...

So you're telling the guy who has had a custom built listening room put in that it'll sound shite and then say how good your NAD set up is ? and he's the tt?

Didn't realise he was a friend of yours...

C'mon. In acoustics it really is a case of "size isn't everthing". The current obsession with producing massive amplification with huge ultra low bass frequencies is not about highest or truest audio reproduction, it is about making a huge amount of noise.

Much the same as when your life is invaded by the "toons" thumping out of some chavved up Nova, and you have to endure it becuase the lights are red...

Volume does not equate to audio quality. That seems to be the mistake many make.

Granted - I have designed three large fully professional recording studios in my time though... so I'm not a total novice...

Not for one minute saying you are but this chap I would imagine can argue the relative merits of SPL v SQ.

Indeed, but he almost certainly would be drowned out while his foundations crumble and he falls a*rse over t*t into the void inhabited by his collosal base bins...

In which case you should understand that different people have a different interpritation of how they feel sound should be like.

I'm not exactly a Hifi expert but I've got a reasonable system and I prefer my music with a touch of bass.

My bro-in-law prefers it with plenty of treble.

I just call it as I see it....

By the same argument all us PH'ers should have mucho respecto for the Maxxers and Barry Boys.

Can't say I've seen much defference here to them though...

The strange phenomena is that the closer you get to 'perfect' quality, the less you are aware of the absolute SPL.
You may not think it is loud but you have to shout at people more than a metre away.

Searching for extreme bass extension is dependent purely on the LF content of the source material. And 99.999% doesnt even come close. Ergo, this all looks a little like 'audio bling'.

Even with 'true' 20Hz response (KEF R107s) you come up against all sorts of mechanical resonances and accoustical parasitics.

Quite right.

The funniest thing would be if this guy invites all his friends and family round for a first try....and he hits the "brown note frequency".

At which point they all lose control of their bowels...

Unless it was built to THX Ultra2 specs in which case he needed a flat frequency response down to 20 Hz.
