Folks,

I have a need for speed. By which i mean a fun fast vehicle, not a desire to watch an awful movie franchise......

I have some quick-ish cars, and drive with enthusiasm in public, but none of my cars are particularly suitable for track days: the ethical place for the 11/10. So, looking for advice on what i should get - with bang per buck a factor; the cheaper the better, but upto 30k if needs be.....

As a ball-park, i find 0-100 in under ten seconds fast. Not particularly fussed on scoring high-speed numbers - i do enough work in Germany that i've had that fix.

The obvious thought is a big-ish bike, but that might be tricky to convince my partner about. Also have doubts about how good a rider i am.

The other idea is a Cateram-type thing - perhaps a bike-engined lo-cost for economy.

The final idea is a rotax, or other senior, go-kart. Not sure how i feel about spending weekends hanging out with teenagers dreaming of F1, but claims for their handling/acceleration are impressive.

Ultimately, i guess a drive it/break it MX5 would teach me to be a better driver - but would probably be just too slow. And i definately don't want a 911.....

Thoughts welcome!

& the answer is ... C63 AMG , especially a lightly modded example , equipped with a quality remap & a Quaife slippy diff . Your grin will be very wide indeed , as was mine yes

For Bang per buck, a Jag XFR is up there. With a change of pulley and remap it can increase from 510 to just short of 600BHP.

A 90k 2009 can be bought for around £12k.

Isn’t the 2009 a 4.2v8 supercharged version so 370bhp (ish?). None the less a lovely car.

I'm always suggesting VX220s, but there's a good reason - they're fun and not too pricey.

So I'd say a stage 4 modified VX220 Turbo.

You wont get much more fast and furious than a TVR Tuscan or Cerbera if you can find one within budget

You're possibly thinking of the SV8 - came out on the '08 plate (I think), with 420 BHP and the 4.2 S/C V8. The XFR S/C 5.0L came out on the '09 plate.

Get a GSX-R 750 not to much power to scare yourself with but a very forgiving chassis & just enough to keep entertained.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-GSXR-750-k5-06-1...

Not only will you enjoy the straight line performance, the corners will put a real smile on your face too.
