Currently looking at buying a 'warm' hatchback with a budget of around 8k. I'll only be doing around 5k miles a year and I'm mainly aiming for something reliable but also with reasonable performance. Not worried about rear seat space etc.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Also watching this. Partners got a 58 plate fiesta that might get moved on in time.
Temping to go again, I had one as a hire car for a week, and it was quite a hoot even just in 1l ecoboost format.

How important is mpg to you, presumably not very?

What's the oldest you would want to go?

Age isn't a concern as long as the car is reliable enough.

Anything to look out for with the Suzuki Swift Sport?

Is a mk7 Fiesta ST within budget? Admittedly a hot hatch rather than warm, but a great car.

Consider a Mazda 3 2.0 petrol sport.

I took one for a test drive and it was great fun with a lovely interior and loads of equipment (HUD anyone?). The engine, steering and gearbox were close to perfect.

It is large, modern looking and 8 grand should get you a 2014 new shape.

Mk 3 Focus 1.6Ecoboost 182. Like mine!

Thread I started in Readers cars: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I would say if I were buying again I'd probably get a Titanium as the Zetec S is very low on equipment. Windy windows in the back, no satnav or cruise, has AC but no climate control but does have Bluetooth, or mine does anyway. Front windscreen demist is a godsend in the Winter too!

According to Fuelio I've averaged 36.7MPG with a best of around 45MPG on a run from Central Scotland to Silverstone last year for the F1. So far it's been faultless with servicing, front tyres and brake pads only.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201... Titanium X with all the toys.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201... Zetec S that looks identical to mine.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201... Similar but in Red. No Bluetooth phone on this one.
