chaps/chapesses

unfortunately I have to change all four tyres (even though I only need two) due to Pirelli no longer making the N1 PZero.........and Porsche Warranty won't let me have N2 on back and N1 on front.

So......... do I go for a new set of Pzeros all around or Michelin Pilots?

Answers on a postcard - all advice greatly appreciated.

PS - if anyone wants some decent N1 PZeros for the Front let me know

I dislike Pirelli tyres and love Michelins. BUT which Michelins?

I've only had my 997 a week (it has PZeros unfortunately) but have had Michelins on 2 other cars and love Pilot Super Sports (now Pilot 4S I believe).

They're quite different to Super Sports (/4S)...and not as good IMO.

They're probably better than Pirellis though. My dining room table is made out of better substances for tyres smile

just checking on Blackcircles the 4S are nearly 100 cheaper..........on the rears and a little cheaper on the fronts.

What makes you like them better then the Pilot sports?

Compare and contrast? :-)

The Pilot Sport 4S is a newer design but I don't think it has yet been given a Porsche 'N' rating - therefore no good for your warranty. I may be mistaken though, I'm, probably out of touch! Would explain them being cheaper than the old (N rated) PS2 though - that 'N' adds a few quid!

No warranty on my 996 so I went for PS4 (non 'S' as they don't do PS4S in my size) instead of 'N' rated PS2.

Basically I would say Michelin > Pirelli.

PS4S are "N" marked for my 981 20" wheels, so may be for the OP's car. Check with Michelin.

I’m away currently however I have a complete set of Pirelli’s off my 997 that whilst are some years old have been stored in dry storage and I can’t remember seeing any cracking etc.

I couldn’t tell you what tread depth currently and can confirm exact sizes early next week and they will be good for some miles that’s for sure.

I’m happy they go free of charge to a good home (I’m not delivering!)

I’m located in the SE UK, send me a pm if that’s any help (or anyone else who might be interested)

Are you sure you can't have different N numbers front and back?
The MPS4S is N rated but not in 19" or smaller size, the 20" has an N rating according the Camskill site.

I would say Michelins.

It may be an idea to speak with the OPC and see if Porsche will contribute towards the tyres as they need you two change perfectly good tyres because the same N rated ones are no longer available.

My brother was in this same situation a few years back and Porsche UK paid for two tyres I believe.

As noted, not on a 911 and mine are the earlier Supersports. But in both cases (RS4, V8V) the tyres had tons of grip, were very progressive, reasonably quiet and good in the wet.

They also coped pretty well with the cold and seemed to last. So basically everything you'd want from a tyre!

I suspect it will take me a while to wear the PZeros out, but when I do the Michelins will be my first choice.

It still baffles me that Porsche are so anal about this kind of stuff!

I just replaced my worn N rated PS2 with a set of the new PS4S and boy what a great tyre!! Some sizes even come with a N0 rating (20") FFS!
Why Porsche insist you have to use an tyre (granted, a very good one) but whose technology is 20 years old?!?

I know the N rated tyres have a stiffer sidewall (IIRC), but I don't see the problem when the load rating match the N specification.

Yes I see where Porsche is coming from, if you where to fit some linglong ditchfinders. But we are talking about one of the very best Michelin tires that Porsche rate for their new cars.

Not being of any help to your question, just saying...
