Buying a car, not sure how insurance will work.

Im looking into buying my first car, and ive found an insurance provider who are willing to insure me.
They said they dont do quotes over the phone, just online. So i filled out the form and got a quote. The thing is, i didnt enter a registration number or a chassis number, so how does the insurance company know what car it is they are insuring me on?

All the details are correct, do they insure me on every model of this car? How do they insure me to just the one car without a registration number? Just curious as im new to the car scene. Thanks

Edit: They do ask for the registration number. But is that all i need?

You've answered your own question. Registration number is the key.

You either input the registration number or if you don't have one you input the make, model and year of car manually.
