I had a text from Barclays in the week, it came through from the number that Barclays have texted me before on.
It said at transaction had been referred to the fraud department and please call this number.
So I did and I got through to the fraud department who said they hadn't sent the message and to ignore it, they asked what number I had called on and said it wasn't a Barclays number and that was the end of it.
In hindsight it was a scam and the only way I can see it working is,
You dial the fake number, that number routes to Barclays where they hope you put all your security details in as you go through the genuine call centre.
They record everything you say and phone inputs etc and bingo they have your entire log in and security details.
Yet Barclays didn't care less.

Don't talk to me about bank fraud.... Inside the last 2 months I've had 3 new debit cards and 4 new Cc's due to malicious activity plus had my identity used to apply for credit. The bank also Barclays has been spot on and the good new is we now have a name.....
Inside job? Or family member/someone you know etc? One of my clients banks with Barclays and she told me this morning that her savings account had been hacked and money stolen, similar virus to the one that affected the NHS she'd been told. That to me would have sounded warning bells.
I hope she hasn't fallen for this scam and will get her money back.

i had the same thing a year ago.. text came through as my usual texts...
went into a branch and showed the branch manager whom rang the number (from their landline).... not realizing it wasnt legit... sat on the phone waiting for 45 mins.
Another member of staff, decided to ring the fraud dept, whom confirmed it wasnt a barclays number...
branch manager a bit red faced
i have also been targeted for ID theft, and have had to go through many hoops assisted by Barclays (whom to be fair have been brilliant) to resolve.
Latest was someone used by bank details to set up a direct debit at an apple store in london to purchase an Iphone 10...
Modern technology is great and all that.. . but there is a serious flaw in ID confirmation...
there was a very useful talk about Cyber security.... defo worth a watch....

Received an email from her and she was scammed, she's very upset. Talking to fraud squad police and visiting the bank this morning. From how she told me yesterday it was similar to the text messages above. Her payments were to one of her usual payees and the other was B&Q.I hope she hasn't fallen for this scam and will get her money back.
eta it was via the mobile banking app

That's the rub, the bogus texts come through usually on the same genuine Barclays number saved on your phone. Quite how this is able to happen no one seems to know . It said at transaction had been referred to the fraud department and please call this number.
