I attended the CCA classic car auction today. It was a petrol heads dream with some incredible machinery on offer. I still have that fantastic 'old car' smell in my nose right now.

Incredible to see an Escort RS1600i go for £42k........not much less than a stunning Austin Healey 3000.

I was interested in a Corrado VR6 VSR but alas, it was out of my price range. The car was absolutely stunning and whilst it wore 44,000 miles, for all intents and purposes it looked brand new. I have to say that the quality of the car preparation at the auction was outstanding.

Back on the VR6, does anybody out there know what kind of difference the VSR inlet made in terms of outright performance?

The story went about 20 ft/lbs of torque, not so much in horsepower. I had a VR6 way back, had a big valve head for it which I never got around to fitting, the car was so unreliable that all my spare time went on keeping it going, so modifying it was never an option.

As a drivers car it was wonderful though, much better than the Impreza that followed.
