Nice Murena, I had a Bagheera for a while. Also a nice looking Renault 16 just to the right of it. My Dad got one brand new in 1973 whenh he was in the forces, drove home from Italy in it on AFI plates, a renault 16 TS if I recall.

Looks just like our meetings. You turn up at the local supermarket once a month, you wander round, and you go home. And if it rains you are on your own. No club spirit here at all.

I much prefer going to meets of other marques, or non marque specific meets, like this one. Just a big line up of TRs or Stags is grim TBH. I think clubs are attempting to address this though. As a member of the TR Register I've been invited to an E-Type register hillclimb, which I'll be attending in a Quattro. (Not to go up the hill, just to watch.)

I assume you are talking about Prescott next weekend? We are open to all now. The trouble is that many won't get their precious toys out nowadays but most of all that we who were the mainstay have got older and some have sold their cars on. I'll be there in the XKSS and would love for you to take me up the hill in the Quattro!

Yup, it was exactly like that, including the Supermarker (Carrefour), but fortunately not the rain. Did manage to speak to a few other owners though.

Sometimes it is galling. A chap turns up with his friends, looks at my car and starts talking in a loud voice "I had one of those and nearly had two. Pulled loads of crumpet and it didn't 'arf go it did." On he went entertaining his friends and then he started asking questions. "How long you 'ad this 'ere E-type then? V12 innit? I can tell by the twin exhausts. Bet it drinks petrol, and waht's it worf"? In French of course.

it was, as dear Gerard Hofnung so laconically remarked in that wonderful sketch "The Bricklayer", that I must at that moment have lost my presence of mind. I pointed out that it wasn't an E-type but an XKSS, which was why it said XKSS on the bonnet. He blustered but my goat was up, and it was funny to see his friends retreating and disassociating themselves from him as I dug the pit deeper and deeper for him.

I really enjoyed my beer at the bar on the way home.
