Possibly dropped a bit of a bk with the tax and MOT on one of my cars.

Got the tax reminder last month, the tax expired at the end of May and the MOT is due on 4th June (tomorrow). So I renewed the tax straight away with the intention of getting the car to an MOT before the due date.

As per usual, life/work/family stuff got in the way... The car hasn't yet been for an MOT, and I won't have the chance to take it for a couple of weeks.

Fortunately said car is a classic (or "toy", or "consumer of time, money and space for bugger all practical gain"...), and I don't actually need to use it - we've two far more modern cars in the household for everyday duties. So being unable to drive it won't be an issue.

However... Once the MOT expires, what happens to the tax? Can the car just remain taxed, albeit non-driveable other than to an MOT appointment? Or do I have to declare SORN once the MOT expires, and re-tax once it has a new MOT?

Gov.uk site as helpful as ever with this query - if the answer's there it's certainly too well-hidden for me!

Over to you, PH Hive Mind... hehe

Sorn is for tax & insurance. You do not need to sorn.

Excellent, thanks. One less thing to worry about!
