Moving from a b8.5 s4 to a e70 x5, owners advice please.
Discussion
Scratched the fast car itch now and had the s4 since beginning of the year, got a baby coming in 10 weeks, and also have a dog so need the space of estate/suv, I have been looking at something a bit more sensible, was looking at 2014+ c class estates or 3 series, either amg trim/m sport. Can see my mileage going up when the baby is here visiting family and o/h’s family live a while away, plus doing a 200 mile round trip a few times a month I’ve decided I’m going back to diesel, averaging 15mpg long term on the s4, does get tiring, I have a heavy right foot though and the car does encourage me to put my foot down!
Drove past a garage today and randomly saw a 62 plate xdrive 3.0 x5 m sport, few other options, looked decent, did a quick drive, I liked it, first time driving a suv. Car has done 82k, is this getting close to the big bills, a few cars before this I had a 330ci, was on 120k when I got it, too it up to 140k and it failed on quite a few things.
How reliable are the facelift x5s I know the gearbox is spot on as had a 520d with a zf8 before the s4,
From research I’m looking atlate 20s round town and mid 30s on a run, is this accurate?
Am I mad? Should I just get a 320d, and actually benefit from the fuel savings.
Not looking to keep the s4 no matter how much you lot try to conve me!

535d M Sport Touring
Have looked at 5 series estates, had a f10 before the s4 so kind of want something else, albeit x5 is pretty similar! Pistonheader101 said:
S4 only giving 14mpg?
Long term mpg on the dis is at 15.8, that’s with mixed driving, lots of foot down moments have dragged that down a lotHave obviously seen higher on runs and stuff, although never much more than mid 20s, I didn’t buy the car for economy but it was worse than expecting and does get tiresome now my mileage has gone up.
Scratched the fast(ish) car itch now, not really looking for anything faster than 200bhp, although x5 is more wouldn’t encourage me to drive hard, going to have a new born in the car quite often and would like too add the Mrs to insurance, keep looking at q5s too, but can’t make up my mind if their too girly.
If it’s got a good service history and you like it then get it brought.
We’ve had a perfect run from our multiple E70 X5s.
Facelift model with the extra power and 8sp box is the pick.
The engine is well proven in a raft of BMW models.
They are hard on brakes, tyres & suspension bushes like all SUVs so keep on eye on them.
MPG would be closer to mid 20s around town and 32-33 on a trip from my experience.
