EVO mag report

My brother says this month's EVO has a report on doing the Isle of Man TT course in the red ultima 640. GAH - I have a subscription but it hasn't turned up yet !

Received my copy this morning. Here's a taster:


"We round a corner in 3rd gear with about 3000rpm showing on the stack, and a long, perfectly smooth straight presents itself. I nail it. The response is instant and mighty and the Ultima lunges for the horizon like it's been rammed by an express train. That's not it, though. At around 5000rpm the V8 comes on cam and the acceleration spikes to a truly mind-warping level. It took me by surpise I can tell you, rearranging my underwear and restyling my hair. Zero to 150mph a second quicker than the Mclaren F1? I don't doubt it.

"This is where the bikes hit 200mph. It's deserted. Hammer time. The Ultima hits hyper drive in third, then fourth, then top. It's utterly devastating, the most intense and sustained slug of acceleration I've ever experienced"

"This is no one trick, point and squirt supercar, though. You can feel the chassis working beneath you, guage the level of grip through the rim of the Personal steering wheel and the seat of you pants and exploit that grip to whatever extent you're comfortable with.

Great - you tell me this now as I just picked up "This month's" Evo here in the US.

It's the one with the TVR's on the front - guess I have another month of waiting patiently to go

Well done! Look forward to it! How much delay is there for US subscribers? I got my Saggy/Spd12 issue two or so weeks ago. It's great that an Ultima owner can get there car in the press so often!

This, from a journalist who figured the 900bhp RS200 in an earlier edition of EVO and declared that the fastest car he'd ever experienced. Wow!

I'm planning a trip to England and Scottland late this summer (with the GTR). How does it work on IOM? I know about the bike race but are there any car races for road legal vehicles?

Don't think there are races, just the Isle of Man have a sensible National Speed limit on the open roads - NONE

I know for a fact there are some over there, either hill climbs or sprints, can't remember which. I know for a fact as they were included in the Westfield Sprint Series year before last. Don't know of any circuit/mass start races though.

But seriously, aren't there any speed limits at all? or are it like in USA (can't remember the state, Nevada maybe) where the speed limit where "resonable and prudent" and it was completely up to the "hillbillycop" to arrest me whenever he though I was "unresonable"...

There was a time when parts of Nevada didn't have a speed limit. That was (unfortunately) many moons ago. There are still sections of Montana (I understand) that do not have a day-time speed limit.

Correct, Montana was what I thought of.

I heard the "resonable and prudent" was up to the driver not the cop. If that's the case ultima drivers may have a very different idea of what "resonable and prudent" really is
