And here we have it - a Mk1 Mx5, 5 minutes up the road from me, parked for 3 years and no idea of condition.
Ill Start from the beginning.
I have a hobby of fixing and fiddling with cars. One night in the pub, i get asked - hey, i have a car thats been stood for a year, the tanks filled with water and it needs draining and getting running again.
not one to turn down a challenge, i glady accepted, got the car trailered to work and got to work
An audi TT - had a bit of work done to it (not to my taste) although looked to be well done.
i disconnected the fuel pipes, bridged the relay, and let it drain the tank, filled with fresh and got her running again. job done.
After speaking to the owner, they then mentioned they had a MX5 that may be for sale, although it had been parked up and was a bit green.
i popped in to view it on the way home.
it certainly as green!
without being able to see to much - i struck up a deal that included transporting the TT back to a garage to have the rest of the overhaul work done ( it needed some other bits that i didnt want to take on) and some beer tokens.
this is it once dragged out to the bottom of the farm track.
Wheels siezed
battery flat
tyres flat and one pulled off the rim
lots of brambles growing out of it from all places
so i grabbed my compressor, fuel, jump leads, jack, a hammer and set to work...
30 mins later - some fresh fuel and jump start and its alive!
clutch pedal and into gear - nothing..
have a look around and can see the clutch slave on the side of the gearbox isnt moving, freed that off with a hammer.. pedals a bit low but it selects gears. hurrah - it moves.
i managed to get it home and on the drive - chuffed with myself
fast forward a day later - my friend with a trailer brings it to my unit and i give it a good wash with the jetwash and investigate a little further.
There is a horrendus rattle and smoke from the front of the engine when reved - my guess is a siezed pulley somewhere.
underneath is rock solid, as are the arches and boot floor. perfect
ive ordered brakes front and back, clutch slave cylinder and a service kit inc plugs and leads so when they arrive i can get stuck into getting it MOT ready

Not sure what you paid for the TT, but the body kit will be worth a few quid on TT Facebook forums, ABT front grill alone is £200/250.
Was thinking the same, what looks like to be a ABT wrap around rear spoiler too along with early Blueflame exhaust and possibly baseball glove interior??.Edited by wjb on Tuesday 5th June 09:37
Although looking back, don't think the OP actually bought the OP, just had a look at fixing it??
It's surprising how well cars can survive sometimes. My Daihatsu is tremendously rust prone, but was left parked up for 13 years against a hedge, covered in green gunk, and yet is remarkably non crusty. It appears that avoiding winter road salt wins out over general environmental moisture/neglect in some cases.
