While changing the plug leads I spotted this rubber pipe which seems to be disconnected... It comes from out of the inside of the car near the wiper motor / coolant tank... Emergency passenger blow-off tube or what? I can't see anywhere it should be plugged into. 5 Dojo points if you can tell me...

This is the barometric pressure pipe that connects to the rear of the nearside air box to the ECU. To be honest - doesn't make a bit of difference connected or not.. Mine was hanging loose for the first 8 years of ownership 'til I rebuild the car and connected it. No difference.

Do your washers work? That fitment looks more like a connector for a washer pipe...

As above, goes into the air box. You want a decent seal there, it's common for the pipe fitting to snap off, as yours has done.

It's used by the Ecus alphaN mapping to trim fueling, I'd defo run with it connected properly.

seems a strange connection into the airbox? Mine has a clued in connector into the airbox that the pipe presses into. It snapped off so I had to make/fit a new one.

Easy to see if it disappears into the bodywork to connect to the ecu or if it runs around the wing, coolant tank, battery way to run down to the screen wash - or if the screenwash pipes are connected to the wipers etc.

So it’s linked to the fuelling ecu. What would this cause as a symptom?? I think my injectors need cleaning but would this cause similar hesitation / low end lumpy running??

Don't think it is screen wash related. They work fine and the pipe is much too thick side walled. Not knowing better Ecu air preasure seems a better bet at a guess... Car is with the local experts having valve shims done today. No time to investigate before this so as soon as home i will report back. Ad it happens, it was lumpy around the 1800 to 2300 rpm at v low throttle but the report today was this was nothing broken, just a tune up needed. If it is the ambient air preasure then i guess it does not make too much odds if it is not connected to the air box until you start getting ram air which at slow speed won't be a factor. Thanks for the ideas and stand by for further updates.

It will be measuring negative pressure, ie vacuum, and as mentioned previously, probably won't make a noticeable difference, certainly not the roughness you are experiencing.

Thanks. NEGATIVE, yes brain now in gear. By all accounts the shims needed for the valves are off being skimmed to set them at the right thickness where the exact right size is not available in the shim kit. Hopefully I get her back tomorrow.

Well this is most bogus dudes... the low-mile service + valve clearances has turned into a bigger job.

When re-shimming it the local TVR specialist has found that the cam tips (hardened steel) have started to go through on one of the cams and as such I need two new cams and perhaps a couple of buckets. Well its a good idea because as the lid is off now so its just the cost of the parts.

Its done just over 50k miles - is this expected on the AJP V8?

This by the way is an interesting parts buying experience, should you be a better mechanic than me and DIYing, as just for the 4.5 there are apparently 4 variations with different bearings etc. Include the 4.2 and Speed 6 and I expect one runs out of fingers.

The other pearls of wisdom imparted were if the cams become worn the non-hardened steel can end up friction welding to the bucket and its hello huge rebuild and that heads for the V8 AJP are unobtainable now so if you break one you're into getting a donor part.

Oh well. Revised return date is about Wednesday·

Mine is on 55k and is a clatter cam. I to have one cam lobe wearing. Anyone know if the clatter profile is available in the chill cast cams? I'd like to keep the original character of the car but have cams that last a bit longer!
