Easy room update to 5.1
Discussion
Hi there,
After a recent tv upgrade our old 55” made its way to the easy room

After testing that everything was working, the TV felt like the “right” size for the room and thought, yeah that would work with 5.1. Mentioned this to SWMBO and she replied “surprised you hadn’t wanted to do it sooner”
So what would your thoughts be on adding a center channel etc to this room?
Here’s the other side of the room.l

Thinking of getting another pair of floor standers for the rear channels and a cabinet that will house the kit and a center channel. Sub will be tucked away to the left of the chimney.
I was thinking about Dolby Atmos but from what I’d read it’s a bit of a mare to get right with upward firing units and I really don’t fancy chasing walls again.
Anyone been in a similar boat going over from 2.0?

Personally I think the TV is way to high. Can you not put it on the wall to the right of the fireplace at a sensible height?
By all means add a centre and some rears but they don't need to be floor standers. A couple of matching bookshelves would be fine.
Upfiring speakers need a flat ceiling to bounce off so if you want Atmos you'll need to run a couple of small chases for in ceilings.

I hear what you're saying regarding the height but SWMBO was adamant on not blocking the fireplace with a cabinet (plus I gave away the stand for that one. Doh!) and I'd already offset to the right in the lounge...

Always felt a compromise too far but in the easy room I've got more of a free hand (sort of)
Plus the amount of work to get the previous one up there (chased the cabling myself) I'm loathe to re position the TV. It looks weird but in use it's fine.
Yeah, I thought about some standmounts even saw some https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOWERS-AND-WILKINS-B-W-...
pretty sure with some decent cable management I could get away with it. Think I'll measure up the height I've got to play with on the right of the sofa.
