I've a 2012 Santa Fe 3.5 (Previous shape)) with nearly 60k miles on the clock. A few weeks ago I disconnected the battery after some minor maintenance (Replaced Air and cabin filter, fuel injector cleaner) In an attempt to fix an over keen throttle peddle at the lights and a slight jerk into 2nd.

Upon reconnecting the battery it was immediately obvious that the steering was heavier and when selecting reverse the car didnt creep back at idle like it used too. Since then Ive disconnected the battery a few times to try and reset again. Last time I left it for a few hours, strangely it doesn't forget the trip info?

Symptoms:

- Heavier steering at all speeds, still has assistnace but feels like about 30% of before (Tried lock to lock several times etc)
- Slow/no creep in reverse. Selects reverse just fine but now have to apply throttle

Fluid levels are fine, no untoward noises.

The only thing I can think of which is common to both those systems is idle speed. Has that changed somehow, perhaps as a result of your work on the throttle pedal?

Wasnt expecting such a quick response, thank you. No Idle appears to be the same cirva 550/600rpm (Its low by most standards) but steering remains heavier at all speeds.

and the throttle remains OTT from idle and still a slight jerk into 2nd.. this is fairly typical of me 'fixing' things...

Hydraulic, the level is perfect and no noises from the pump

Further to your suggestion, I think actually you might be on to something.

Just had a prod and look around, disconnected battery and wiggled pushed everything.

Started back up and steering wasn't as heavy as it was yesterday but it was a cold start so idle was higher. Went for a drive and steering felt a tad heavier than I remember but was light enough. At traffic lights i noticed the idle dropped to 500 and a couple of times to about 450 (V6 Engines so smooth its tricky to tell other than looking at the tach)

Got back to the garage, stuck it in reverse and the revs dropped again to about 400/450 which would explain the lack of creep.

Just need to research resetting the idle speed

That would be unlucky but I'm a tyre condition and pressure fanatic. I've checked them since the issue started.
