Bit of a thought that's going on in my head. I think they were roughly about 90-98k new with options and are now down at 35-42k mark for a decent example (Miles under 30k, full Audi service history & in decent condition). Are they at the bottom of their depreciation and being the first R8 in a manual so more of a car enthusiasts type of example that they are going to start creeping on up in value or do people think they still have more room to drop in price?

Only interested i don't think i could buy one unless I did a shared ownership with 2 of my mates who are into their cars and shared it but would be interested to see what other people think.

I also couldn't find a thread about this car appreciating in value so sorry if it's been covered off recently

I've been looking at these too and trying to understand the environment in which they'll either appreciate, depreciate or hold level. Tracked a few on the usual classifieds and came to some conclusions, rightly or wrongly;

...On one hand, manual prestige cars are a rarity and clearly the better option over auto, autos of the 06-09 period aren't outstanding (I think about Ferraris with the auto option here). But the number of enthusiasts who will value and use, and therefore seek out, the manual box is a pretty tiny percentage of the car-buying public.

What's holding the manual R8's at the 35-45k mark right now is the abundance of them. They're rare, but not super rare. That, and they directly compete with 997's of the same era - a car with similar paper stats and comparable performance - which can be had for 20-25k, or a bit more for a low mile manual...

Bearing in mind these two potential groups as buyers and the relatively large amount of cars for sale which have been sat unsold for months in some cases, there's a stagnation at the 35-45k mark in terms of price. I can't imagine they'll go up nor much lower for the next year or two. They're rare but not that rare, relatively inexpensive to purchase and run (in modern sportscar terms anyway), but at the same time prohibitive at the 40k median price for someone like myself who would love one, but also has to consider house purchases in the near future...

Finally, some prestige car dealers and marque specialists selling the low mile, manual, mag-ride cars won't let them go for much less than 40k. Given the strength of the engine and long service intervals, I would guess that the real performance bargain would be a private seller willing to let their car go for around 35k, but higher mileages. Spending 40k on an R8 as an investment would be a bad decision (other cars, the rarer M BMW's for example, are more likely to experience a boom in values in the way some Porsches have done over the last 5 years.) In contrast, it seems to me that buying an R8 for 35k (setting aside 5k as a contingency slush!) as a regular or even daily car would be a fantastic and dare I say, sensible (!) thing to do - for anyone in the fortunate financial position to do so :-)
