Today my 2010 bmw 120d with 63k has blown its turbo, it sounds like a ambulance siren when letting off the accelerator ie; to change gear ect. I have been told by a few garages it is the turbo. I’m just wondering where I can get a new quality turbo and not a cheap crap one! Bmw want 2300quid for a turbo and a gasket kit and that’s without fitting! Any help would be appreciated!😘

Glad to help.

(Note: this is not necessarily the correct turbo for your car)

www.realoem.com

Put the last 7 digits of your VIN into the website, find the turbocharger and use the part number to find a replacement online/with BMW/with a Breaker. Consider a reconditioned unit as well.

Hi ....... ..after you have got that Turbo sorted realising it sounds over the top but I would seriously think about selling it. I have a gut feeling after that Turbo blow the next thing coming a few thousand miles down the road is the Timing Chain ,they seem to follow each other.Maybe what causes the blow may have been slowly derailing the chain Hope you sort it out to your satisfaction whatever you do.

Well not as night follows day obviously. Do you know about the N47 Timing Chain issues? BMW recalled 2007/9 that was the worse of it but they were still doing "Puma" fix right up till 2011 and in 2014 the service manager of a Main dealer said to me it was "only now I would spend my own money on an N47 Engine"... loads of stuff on Babybmw as///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

So my May 2012 118d (f20) has been diagnosed with the timing chain issue. Its currently got 19,000 miles on it and has always had an unusual engine rattle.

I had it looked at at about 1,000 miles on the clock, and at about 14k the noise changed to a lovely scraping noise.

Its taken 2 further months for the dealer to get round to finally diagnosing the issue, now they are currently stating that bmw dont currently have a fix as my car has all the latest parts. As i understand it the fix on earlier engines was a new crank chain and tensioners.

I'm trying to find how many other f20 n47 have this issue and if anyone who has one (or works for bmw) knows of any total chain failures yet?.

Ill post a link to a youtube clip of the sound i have.

Are you fitting it yourself? They are not to bad to do on n47, if so, I’d go the used route - turbos are not an overly common failure and most breakers will not sell them if they have got any play in the impellers. Last one I fitted was 140£ and it’s still going strong.

Quite. I mean why would you put a Bosch wiper on your windscreen or Pirellis on your wheels?

Weirdo.

They make air conditioning condensers for office blocks too but best not to go there.

It’d look st hanging off the side of a 1 series.

Exactly. BMW's legendary M57D30TÜTOP engine, seen in the 335d and 535d, guaranteed to blow you past many sports cars of today has... Borg Warner turbos. And no, BMW don't own Borg Warner.

Even the latest M3 uses Mitsubishi turbochargers.

It's not uncommon for BMW to use other manufacturers to make components for them, its how they stay in business.

As it's a well known fact that Bosch and Pirelli are parts suppliers that make products for just about every car manufacturer, and it's not as well known that Mitsubishi make products for other manufacturers, and not just for Mitsubishi cars, your post makes you look a complete twcensoredt!
