I've been looking at the current Denon AV receiver range, however I cannot tell from their website or other places like What HiFi whether it has an RF remote control or only an IR. I will host it in a closed cupboard so IR won't work.

Does anyone have one or know?

It's been a while since I refreshed by HiFi setup (15 years) so not sure if RF is so standard it's not a big deal.

I have the x7200 and pretty sure it’s ir. I have it in an av cupd with all my other gear and use a harmony universal remote with WiFi hub and ir blasters.

Same here. Harmony with the IR blasters.

I think you can get IR extenders designed for this purpose.

I use one of these with my Denon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HAV9JCQ/ref=cm_sw_r...

You can either use the little emitters or replace them with a mono 3.5mm cable and plug it in directly to the IR in socket on the back of the amp. Both work perfectly.

They are IR, but there is also an expanded app available, meaning that you can control almost all of the functions from your phone or tablet.

I use a Harmony remote, so just use an IR extender to control mine most of the time, but the app is handy to use rather than diving into the menus to change a setting.

Thanks for the info. I really don't like thrid part 'all in one' type remotes, so will look at the app and an IR extender.

I assume the IR extenders are reliable? I remember building one myself a long time ago (20+ years) and it was not by best creation.

I hardly ever touch my remote. It's all done by voice using Alexa.

'Alexa, watch a blu-ray" - Oppo fires up, Denon fires up, TV fires up and changes to the right input. Lights dim smile

You could connect it to your wifi and use the denon app to control it.

The cheap USB powered one I use is 100% reliable.

I've got a fairly recent Denon AVR-X1400H and i's definitely IR.

The new amps can be controlled by an Denon app on your phone, seems to work fairly well and maybe an option if you only need to use the Amp remote occasionally. Thinking about it I hardly ever actually use the amp remote...the automatic source switching seems to work well and volume up/down is done through the Sky remote.

I have a Denon AVR-X4400H

Which I use via IR and the Smart App. It's tucked away in a cabinet. No problems using either method.

I tend to just leave the TV and Blu Ray remote out as the amp one is used so rarely.

Like the look of that cabinet T1. Where's it from?

This.

I've not touched my Denon remote since I bought my 3400 four months ago (apart from setup).

I've got an outstanding firmware update, do you know if you can do this via the iPhone App?

Sorry for the late reply.

I've just done a firmware update using my phone so yes it can be done.

Just load the HEOS app and it automatically checks and asks if you want to update.
