About to pull the trigger on a 2013 Jaguar from a franchised dealership and understand it includes a 2 year warrant, from Jaguar, which sounds quite good.

I will use the car there for a couple of weeks and then will be exporting it to another EU country and I have now have been informed by the dealer that this will void the warranty.

If it was a dealers warranty this I would understand but why is it that the manufacturer gets out of this one? There are Jaguar dealerships here and when I bought a used Range Rover that was under 3 years old a few years ago that needed something fixing, it was covered by the same manufacturer, and was fixed here free of charge by the local JLR dealer.

So what's the difference here?

If the car, say, is given to me and a fault is discovered 2 weeks later from something that would have been on the car when it was sold to me eg an air con leak, you would be covered for that without a dealers warranty by law, so how is it that there is no recourse if the car is in another EU country ?

There are laws and regulations there that covers the buyer there so how is it that those same consumer rights are voided if the car leaves the UK and goes to, say France?

I thought it was supported by the Jaguar UK dealer network so any work would need to be at a UK dealer.

Yes but then they say if anything happens to the car if you take the car to Europe, that you get it fixed there and then they will pay for the repairs when you get back to the UK.

They won't pay the European garage directly though.

But if you export the car to Europe the warranty is void.

I came across this

https://www.eccireland.ie/wp-content/uploads/2013/...

It seems that there is something in place that carries over the consumer rights that you have in the UK regarding the car being fit for use, with the 30 day, 6 month etc time limits.

But I spoke to Jaguar and they insist that their used car warranties are for UK use only. I have taken this up with ECC and will post their response.

Manufacturer 'Used Approved' warranties are normally pretty standard off-the-shelf warranties supplied by third party companies but re-branded to fit the manufacturer and so will have largely the same terms and conditions.

Your consumer rights would not be voided.

But it may be that the terms of this extended warranty (which operates in addition to your consumer rights, not instead of) do not apply outside of the UK.
