Work experience for 15 yr old...

My son is 15 and studying high performance engineering at Silverstone UTC. He is also a total petrol head and looking for a work experience placement for this year or next in the automotive industry, road or race related.

I am surprised by how hard it is to find anyone taking students unless you have a friend or relative in the business! The school leave it up to the student to organise, which is great, but not when places are so hard to find...

Anyone here know of any companies / teams that take work experience (or indeed work at such a place and could help ;-)! ).

We are near Brackley so right in the 'motorsport valley'...

I take it he has been for a walk around the Silverstone campus ? There are a number of firms there including the likes of Ducati UK etc, so maybe just knocking on doors and showing a little initiative may well impress someone...

Yeah, that is indeed on the list of things to do but I was thinking (for here) in terms of the bigger manufacturers etc such as AM / JLR or Fx teams etc

I wanted to get a feel from anyone who has recent experience of getting / looking for a place so he can target a few properly rather than spamming.
