Suspension refresh requirements

I am dabbling with the idea of getting new shock absorberss for my car. Is it best practice to replace the springs also at the same time and also what other components would be prudent to refresh whilst doing these jobs?

I wouldn't replace the springs - they don't wear out. Otherwise, check the condition of balljoints & bushes & replace any which are showing excessive movement.

Depends on the quality. If you're replacing standard OEM parts with standard OEM parts then I'd look at the condition of the springs and replace them if they were significantly corroded or cracked. Springs do occasionally sag but good quality springs usually don't, and the OEM springs would have been good quality.

It would make sense to fit the struts with new top hat bushes and bearings, but otherwise I'd just inspect the bushes while you have access and consider replacing if necessary.
