Quick question for BIB or highway code experts...

Do horses (or more to the point, their riders!) have to obey temporary traffic lights ?

Cheers

www.highwaycode.gov.uk/02.htm

Doesn't say anything about traffic lights though...

Dogs...

>Do not let a dog out on the road on its own...

But no chickens...

Eh? I can understand the number plate reading backwards if the transparency is the wrong way around, but how does it end up upside down too???

Neigh....

Whilst a well exercised horse fed on best bran and oats will on the trot produce continous and crisper rumblings than a sports car it does not have a combustion engine or can be classed as a mechanically propelled vehicle/pedal cycle so cannot commit the offence of failing to conform to a traffic sign, namely red traffic light.

If is was then NOIP would have to be served. This will cause problems for Plod as to where to send it to but a couple of good addresses:

Vye ISDER,
Asmeni Orzes,
ARZES AS DERIZ
OZZES.

Becos DERIZ
Wun Orze
PERASS.

Incidentally you may or not be aware that nags have to have passports if they leave the Country. TRUE - would I lie?

Listen! If you were transporting a horse in the backseat of your car, wouldn't you put the number-plate on upside down ... I mean, supposing someone took a photograph and posted it on the Internet? - Streaky

So who else is all agog wondering the story behind slightlymiffed's request?

Come on spill the beans old chap .......

Agree with DVD about the facts, being a non horse rider though [1] why shouldn't the rules apply as is given in the guidance contained within HC rule 88, taking a common sense PoV naturally.
Highway Code said:

Section
General rules, techniques and advice for all drivers and riders. (my emphasis)

88: You MUST obey all traffic light signals and traffic signs giving orders, including temporary signals & signs. Make sure you know, understand and act on all other traffic and information signs and road markings.

Yes I know this is in the mechanically propelled vehicle section, but still.

I have this vision of a bolshie little madam exercising her rights as well as her nag and making towman back up his 20-odd tons of Sainsbury's sausage rolls and pork pies.

FiF

[1] Went out horse riding once, never been such a brown trouser job in my life. Decided it was far safer to hack through the forest behind 240 BDG horsepower than one fuelled by oats and bran which produced different sort of emmissions. Paaaaarrrpppp.
That horse could have crepitated for England. Arf Arf

And all nags have to have passports even if they don't leave the country.
