Rolex & attention of thieves
Discussion
Lots of news of folk getting robbed of watches. Up until a while ago I would not have thought of actually taking mine off. But over summer & wearing t shirts I will change my behaviour & wear another piece or go commando. I don’t think I am being paranoid but caution in these feral times isn’t a bad thing. What do you reckon.
The worlds most Iconic and instantly recognisable and known to be expensive watches are attractive to thieves? Who’d have thought?
And so they should be, nobody wants to spend thousands on a Rolex and go unnoticed. If they weren’t completely obvious, they wouldn’t be so popular all over the world.
Someone not wanting their watch to be recognised would be wearing something else.

I’m aware of the risk, but am not willing to stop wearing my nice watches. I hope that being reasonably aware of my surroundings, and avoiding the worst places means that the risks are relatively small, but I prefer to take that risk rather than keep them in a box at home.
I am happy to drive across town in a car worth more than all my watches added together as are, I assume, a lot of people here. I know we have to be aware of risks, but we can’t live in fear.

Buy a fake Rolex for £10.
Fool your friends that it's a £20,000 watch, and if you get mugged by a moped gang so what?.
Win Win.
I was thinking about buying a fake so if mugged I didn't lose the real thing. But then realised I'd still be a target anyway because of the fake watch and them thinking it was real. Fool your friends that it's a £20,000 watch, and if you get mugged by a moped gang so what?.
Win Win.

Workmate recently had his Seiko robbed at knifepoint in central London after a night out.
Scum will target anything in a split second decision, brand doesn't matter to a crackhead.
I avoid Rolexes with short sleeves and go with my Bremont MB2 as I can't see that getting much attention BUT............ now you've said that!!!!!Scum will target anything in a split second decision, brand doesn't matter to a crackhead.

So is the preferred method to threaten the victim with a knife/gun or try to wrestle it from the wrist?
I’d certainly fight to hang onto mine.
That's the stupidest thing I've read all week.I’d certainly fight to hang onto mine.
Perhaps you’d like to explain why?

The fact that I need to explain this doesn't help...

The chances of them being armed with a knife or similar are way too high. If you value your watch more than your life, that sounds pretty stupid to me.

I know you’re right but I also know that I would fight. It’s just the way I am.The fact that I need to explain this doesn't help...
