Folks - I just received this from a French member of the group I'm meeting up with for a pre LeMans tour around the Loire Valley:

"Hello to you all,
It seems that the French president got notice if our LeMans tour and just in time has put in place a new speed limit of 80 km/h for country roads applicable from the 1. July. No, this is not a joke. In the French Parlament they are already discussing what to do with all the extra inflow of cash. Hope you will not become part if that extra revenue....
Looking forward to meeting you in France"

It's apparently for 90KPH roads without a central separation, i.e; a barrier, although it's not fully clear if it will pass through the final hearing in government. The French that I know don't have a clue what it will end up as.
There probably won't be time to install the new speed limit signage in time either. That will be a great cash cow!
Mind how you go folks. From the 1st of July anyway!

Like the blanket speed limit of 60mph in the UK it applies by default therefore there will not be any new 80kph signs. You only see 90kph signs when on dual carriageway motorway etc when the normal 110 or 130 limit is reduced.
It’s a 2 year experiment.
Not applicable for the 24 Hours but in place for the Classic
