Despite the Mrs saying she didn't want a big telly in the lounge as "it dominates the room" she has finally conceded that the 32" we currently have is a bit small. Therefore as part of the decoration project I have had the go ahead for a wall mounted large telly.

It will be wall mounted. We sit directly opposite at around 3m distance. I'm thinking 55" will do it (we also have a dedicated Cinema room with projector so this is for more casual TV watching than the full movie experience. I'll also want a soundbar probably the Sonos one with Alexa built in for voice control and support for Spotify/Amazon music and my own ripped tracks(flac).

As prices seem to vary from £500 to several thousand I'm a bit confused as to what to buy as in a shop they all look pretty similar in the shop.

I assume they are all 4k now and Smart. For the smart functions Netflix/Amazon are essential with the other catchups (bbc, itv etc) youtube and Now TV being nice to have.

It needs to have satellite tuners as I don't have an aerial only Freesat right now.

Do they have dual tuners recording built in? A TV that does it all would be great.

Not bothered about it being the latest model, I was thinking around £1000 but happy to adjust that if needed.

As an aside what should I tell the electrician to put behind the telly? Power, hdmi, ethernet x2 each? in a panel or tails?

If you can up the budget then this is about as good as it gets from a picture point of view. It's the bottom of the OLED range (along with the C7 which was initially a Currys only model). Bottom of the range it may be but it has the same panel and picture processing as the top of the range. As you're using a soundbar there is no need to move up a model or two for the better audio.

Comes with a lovely OS, Netflix and Amazon buttons on the magic remote. Freesat and Freeview connections.

You'll need power, HDMI to your soundbar (assuming it accepts ARC). HDMI to any sources, ethernet and satellite. I'd use faceplates for all except the HDMI (brush plate for that)

As one who sells systems, take it from me, dont go to big or noisy when you have a cinema room too.

Number of clients I see have a cinema in a lounge or a seperate room and then a big tv either in the same room or else where. They end up using the cinema set up less and less.

Keep it small and standard in the lounge and visit the Cinema Room more for the event / must watch stuff.

One client has a 4m Wide 4K Atmos Reference system which he uses as a TV room, he even watches Gardener World on it!

Thanks.

Both will get plenty of use.
Of course the next move will then be a 4k projector.

Referring to a TV as a “telly”, definitely council.
