Hi all,

I've enquired about a Cayman S factory order and have been told there are none available this year with PDK and they don't know when they will be.

They have said that the base cayman and cayman GTS models are available though.

This is probably due to the emissions stuff thats going on at the moment but wondered if anybody else had the same experience or had managed to order a cayman S.

I was chatting to a Porsche sales executive yesterday and due to the GPF issue Porsche build slots are all over the place. There was also a press release from Porsche about this last week(?) and I remember that base and GTS models were the first to be sorted so it rings true.

The GPF issue is going to be massive for Porsche I think.

Thanks - yeah it appears to be. Surely the S is more popular then the base though!?

Might have to look on the used market!

I think now the GTS is around, the GTS will be more popular than the S. Base and GTS are the ones to get "fixed" first.

EDIT: found the thread on here that talks about it:

I wouldn't have thought so. I would think more of the base models are sold considering the S is ~ 10K more expensive.

I think the S is now a non starter against the GTS, most people are buying on PCP if you option an S it’s not much less than a GTS with some spec on PCP rates due to the GTS versions much higher GTFV.

And about 80% PDK ! For a sports car I'd expect a much higher proportion of manuals

Welcome to the modern “performance car” world..... Manual die-hards are the last of a dying breed unfortunately..... Just look at any recent PH thread and you’ll see what I mean....

Well it’s an everyday kind of sportscar really so not surprising at all.

My 718 CS was bought as a fun second car and that was specced with PDK, too many hours playing computer games with paddles means PDK actually feels more racey/sporty to me lol. Oh and my daily is a manual Mini Works 210 so I get my retro fix from that smile

I suspect the issue with certain models being available first is more to do with Porsche's capacity to run a large number of certification tests in a short period of time. Engineers, observers, test cells etc being the limiting factors.

The Porsche Press Release referred to earlier mentioned having to certify with and without options so adding substantially to the work load.

Why not do as the Japanese - no factory extras, get rid of all the tat on the extras list and only fit items as standard that were essential add ons and perhaps charge £5k extra over list - simples!Talk about a bureaucratic nightmare for manufacturers !
