Hello all,

Landed a new job, commute will be about 40mins on twisty B roads and I’ve decided this means I probably need a new (more exciting) car.

Currently driving a mk4 golf tdi, so ‘exciting’ covers a broad spectrum of cars.

I’ve narrowed down the requirements as follows:
- budget <8k, ideally a bit lower
- age, around 10 years or newer
- 0-60 <9s, ideally a bit quicker
- fun! I want something at the opposite end of the spectrum to the golf
- petrol, manual
- as reliable as possible - duh - no idea what to look for here though. I’ve heard better things re. Renaultsports more recently?

I’ve been looking at RS Clio, Megane, Scirocco (2.0), Civic type R, Suzuki swift sport

Any other recommendations?

Cheers!

Suzuki Swift Sport, but then I'm biased.

I have driven my '12 SSS hard since I've owned it (after warming up of course) and it's been flawless in over 40k miles (purchased it at 30k miles). Still brings a smile to my face.

Blinkers off, you can't ignore a Clio 182 or Megane for the money either. Plenty more bhp too...

Cheers LBP, they were my first choice when I started looking (SSS). Been through a few phases since then, but now firmly back in the Suzuki camp... Just waiting for the right one to pop up. Clio is tempting, for the extra 60hp but not sure I'll need/use it - and I've heard bad things about the gear synchros.
