Could anybody recommend a good watch insurance company
I bought a few watches about 30 years ago I wear them quite often, but i never bothered about insuring them because they didn't cost me that much
The watches are
Rolex 16750 Pepsi GMT master with matte dial I paid £400
Rolex 1963 Air King I paid £120
Omega Solid gold Seamaster Day Date 1968 I paid £320

What a surprise I had when someone suggested that I check online for rough values and get them insured.

The best way would be to add them on to your home insurance. I'd recommend you get a formal valuation as well.

OP, I used to insure my watches through TH March. However recently moved to Direct Line Select home insurance, as it was more economical. Creating separate policies for your watches can be an expensive route to take.. Get them all valued first, as that will be a prerequisite for insurance..

Thanks for the replies
Would it be best to get the watches valued at a local independent jeweler or from a specialist.
I live in West Yorkshire so any recommendations

Hmmm I'm in W.Yorks too think I would go to your nearest AD for Rolex/Omega like Berrys in Leeds. Mine are listed on my home insurance but I too need to update it.

Interesting topic though, I will be keeping an eye on it.

Get them valued at a Rolex specialist and then get them on the house insurance!

I've just added a Rolex 36mm Datejust and Omega Seamaster to mine, think it cost roughly £100 extra over the year. This is to have them insured in and out of the house.

I have my watches and the OH’s engagement ring insured with TH March. Worked out better than going through the house insurance with named items.

Im not convinced about valuations. Remember that 10% of value charges are not uncommon and all you really need to do is establish the authenticity of the watches, which can be done using service receipts.

With most insurance being new for old, the indemnity value of the watch is neither here nor there. The gold Omega may still only be worth £320, but they'll be buying a new one. The only real issue on older gold watches is the material: 9ct and 14ct (particularly in America) was common, but seldom if ever seen now.

I have a steel and gold Date from 1986. A valuation is of little interest to me as my insurers will have to replace it with a S&G Datejust, the massively wide of the mark and overpriced valuation from any old jeweller isn't worth a deal to me, let alone 10%!

take photos to back up ownership and note serial numbers. All helps if the police ever find them.
