Made some enquiries for a factory order Polo GTI+, spec'd how we'd like it, got some indication of prices which seemed reasonable and was absolutely astounded when I asked about lead times...

40 weeks if I order today! 19th March 2019!!!! Does that sound ridiculous or not? As above, I couldn't believe it and thought he was taking the mick..

Yes that is indeed the lead time for them. Could be something to do with WLTP but people have been told 40+ week wait for a good month now.

Almost all new VAG cars have similarly ridiculous lead times, it seems It's pretty shocking at current. Try and find one in stock of you really want one ASAP, that would be my advice. That would require going with whatever options it may or may not have on there, maybe even a standard spec car.

Either that or look at something else.

I've never bought a brand new car and had no idea that was to be expected. 9 months is crazy.

As you've mentioned, will likely lead to us ordering / buying something else. Was for my wife and just saw the Polo GTI as a near perfect car for her.

Do people really wait 9 months for a car? I am actually shocked VAG sell any cars if you are expected to wait 9 months. If you need a car you need it pretty quickly, I just can't imagine placing an order for a car that I didn't need for 9 months.

I lose interest in things very quickly, I wouldn't want the car anymore before it had even turned up.

I have no clue if people who are ordering these are actually going through with them but those lead times are indeed very real.
