Hi,

I have just fitted a new clutch/fork//bearing/flywheel, the car is still on stands as I intend to do a body lift at some point, having refitted the slave cylinder the clutch pedal has a couple of inches of slack at the top.

The release bearing spins so its not jammed in any way, checked fluid, no signs of leaking and still topped up, I'm sure it wasn't like it before and the pedal feels ok after the slack is taken up.

Any ideas?

Thanking you in advance.

Do you have the slave cylinder fitted with the bleed nipple at the top?
It makes a difference.

Did you use the original pushrod?
Did you have to push quite hard to get the slave into position?
You say you have fitted a different flywheel. Is this and the new clutch thinner than the standard type?

Thanks for the info,

I didn't remove the pipe from the slave, just tucked it to the side with a bolt/cable tie to prevent the cylinder creeping out so assume its gone in the way it came out, ill check the bleed nipple position when I get under the car later.

I used the same rod, just changed the fork, the flywheel has been lightened and the clutch face machine flat, I wouldn't have thought that such a small variance would make a difference, but could be the reason I guess, although wouldn't the slave compensate for this?

Ill remove and re fit the slave later and make sure the piston is snug against the rod when it goes back in.

Thanks again, if you can think of anything else please let me know.

Cheers

Hi all,

I have re fitted the clutch slave cylinder and it all seems ok at that end, but still have the slack on the pedal.

Having had another look at it, the pedal is in alignment with the brake pedal and the slack is when lifting the pedal, when you lift the pedal the pushrod pulls out from the master cylinder when letting it go it falls back until the pushrod is against the piston.

Is there a spring fitted to the pedal to keep the push rod tight against the master cylinder piston?

I'm not sure yet whether the clutch works ok as having running issues, again, lol

Cheers

Frank, there is no spring at the clutch pedal point.

Thanks for the pic.

If anyone could do me a favour next time there in there car, when the pedals are level, can you let me know if there is any movement when you lift the clutch pedal, perhaps I'm just being paranoid.

Cheers
